Dimensional System Engineering

Using strong project management and problem solving techniques to ensure the functional and aesthetic requirements for the I-Pace were clearly understood, documented, and that the team of engineers across several departments and suppliers were all working to the same goal.

Everything from method of manufacture, and aligned datum strategies, to agreed tuneable features were considered and detailed.

In addition, we implemented a robust validation process at first prototype build to confirm the engineering entitlement to deliver the specification.

This project saved what previously has cost over £500k in late change, re-tooling, reworks and product delays.

Process Bottleneck and Crisis Management

Having highlighted that the required production ratio could not be achieved with the current factory layout, we assessed the bottleneck processes and proposed alternatives, with associated costs and timings to resolve the problem.

We then project managed the implementation of the change in factory layout, new robot cell creation, and process changes to deliver the required production volumes, on time, and within budget.

A subsequent project involved setting up a crisis management system in case the suspension paint lines stopped working as they could stop the entire plant for potentially weeks.

This involved a detailed FMEA with the relevant departments, and suppliers where required. Ensuring that we had a contingency plan for all possible risks.

The plan included the ability to paint each product on each of the two lines, service contracts for pumps, cheap spares kept onsite, and a maintenance schedule to reduce risk where possible.

Elements of the plan have been required in emergencies, but due to this, the paint lines have never stopped the plant.

Process Setup and Implementation

Bowers and Wilkins required a Customer Complaints Database that would allow issues being raised to be analysed, and categorised, so the Quality Department could react and fix any repeat issues in the market.

We worked with all stakeholders of the process within Quality and adjacent departments, to develop a specification for the Database, and then with IT to setup and implement the database on SAP.

Finally we created thorough documentation of the new system, and updated all of the relevant processes to utilise the new information at B&Ws disposal.

The project was sufficiently successful that we duplicated the database for Internal Issues so everything could be assessed together, wherever the concern was discovered, which was game changing for the Quality Department.
